Soprano or standard ukulele:

To date I have made a hundred or so of these, the most famous being The Helsinki Soprano - a matched set of 15!

As you can see, I use the Martin body pattern for my standard soprano ukulele. It is the classic design that most people feel produces the best sound. The little beauty in the photograph opposite is unusual in that it has a bookmatched back and front - I usually make these with a single piece of wood and wooden friction pegs!

The best of these is made from plain Hawaiian koa. Koa produces what I call the 'Island' sound and is ideal for strumming accompaniment. South American Mahogany often has a warmer sound and is great for fingerpicking.
