HarpukeBack in the days when I built guitars I made several Dyer style Symphony harp guitars and a couple of pseudo harp guitars. I loved the challenge of making these and had always wanted to revisit the idea for ukulele. In 2001 I built a couple of pseudo concert harpuke but wasn't really happy with the design or construction. The body was too small and didn't really allow for a decent number of sub-bass strings. However, revisiting this idea again last year lead to the production of the prototype you see to the right of this text. It's a tenor scale instrument that has a koa body and an Alaskan spruce front with Peruvian cocobolo fingerboard and bridge. As a prototype it is incredibly successful as you can hear here. Now I have sorted out the construction details I have gone back to the drawing board and styled a new design after those great Symphony Harp guitars I built in 1998... | ![]() |
