Electric tenor ukulele

These really are the Rolls Royce of my electric ukulele; they could almost pass for mini Les Pauls!

Apart from the usual stunning looking koa I am now focusing on burrs to top these lovely instruments.

Burrs occur when there is an insect or fungal infestation in the early years of the trees growth that causes it to put forth hundreds of buds in one place. These never mature into shoots and soon the tree develops what can only be called a wart which encases the buds and begins the formation of this wonderfully decorative but  structurally useless wood!

This particular specimen is burr elm. When I made furniture for galleries I used it a lot in small side tables and jewlery boxes. Elm also has incredible colour variagation with browns, greens and black all swirling arounf the burrs. Just got to be my favourite cap wood for uklectics.
